Among the latest pieces en route from the ever-busy folks at Civivi is the Ryson-E. This is a transfer student from We Knife Co. lineup, with materials and design altered for the lower price point.

If you are a close follower of We/Civivi/Sencut releases, you’ll recognize the Ryson-E’s forbearer as a design by Sam Tran. Tran is a German designer with a background in mechanical engineering, and a stalwart presence in the online knife community. The original Ryson marked his first and, to date, only collaboration with We Knife Co., although Tran has brought out a collaboration piece before with Chaves Knives. That piece was called the Arison Street and, as we see with both members of the Ryson family, it showcased Tran’s particular interest in bold blade profiles.

Damascus model present and accounted for!

When we look at the Ryson-E, we think of what Emerson Knives called the “banana” blade shape, the upswept-yet-still-robust blade they used on the CQC-8 models. That being said, Tran certainly did his own thing with the Ryson-E, and ended up designing a knife that will be a stylish, dependable everyday carry – perhaps that’s what the “E” in “Ryson-E” stands for? Anyway, at 3.32 inches in length, the plentiful belly will make for an adept slicer and daily snipper. As expected this one is made from 14C28N, a favorite over at Civivi HQ.

In terms of lines, it’s the Ryson-E’s blade that does most of the talking: the understated handle is more utilitarian – which, in our humble opinion, is how it should be. There are two Micarta and two G-10 options when it comes to coloration, although functionally they will be pretty similar, so follow your heart on that choice – unless you want the damascus model, in which case it will be black canvas Micarta only. In terms of the lock, the Ryson-E is equipped with a liner lock, and the reversible deep carry pocket clip is another recurring Civivi cast member. It (the whole knife, not the clip) weighs 3.28 oz.

The Ryson-E is expected to ship just ahead of Halloween.
