A new model from Civivi is noteworthy for any aspiring butterfly knife maestros out there. The Dracolisk is a balisong model that the company is rolling out exclusively in edgeless, practice-friendly versions.
Balisongs, maybe more than any other sub-genre in the knife market, are a world unto themselves. Not only are there enthusiasts who like to carry butterfly knives everyday, but there are many interested solely in flipping and related tricks it is possible to do with the format’s unique two-handle construction. But regardless of where a particular bali-head falls on that spectrum, there is always the looming necessity of practice, which is where trainer balisongs come in.

Which is also where the Dracolisk comes in; while it is the first butterfly knife Civivi has produced, it is only available as a trainer. That means that its 4.6-inch scimitar-style clip point blade has no live edges on it – although it is proportioned and ground so as to be as close to the real thing weight-wise as possible, so that transitioning from this trainer to a live edge bali should go smoother. The Dracolisk’s blade moves on dual bronze washers rather than ball bearing pivots, by the way.
The typical bali handle is long and stick-shaped, with any unusual elements usually reserved for the materials or machining on the slabs themselves. As befits a trainer, the Dracolisk’s aluminum handle pieces have 3D texturing and colored anodizations, but are fundamentally simple shapes. There is no latch, magnetic or otherwise, on the Dracolisk, which again makes sense in the context of a trainer, where no live edge can accidentally flip out. The Dracolisk weighs 4.18 oz.
You can start training with the Dracolisk soon, as it is expected to begin shipping this week.
