New from Benchmade is the Mini SOCP Folder, a highly portable adaptation of the company’s Mini SOCP fixed blade model. This is far from a straight translation from fixed to folding, with many notable differences between this new knife and its unmoving predecessor.

The SOCP family has been a longstanding component of the Benchmade catalog. All models (including this new one) have their origin in the mind of Greg Thompson, a man who has spent decades training Special Ops units, martial artists, and other Federal Agencies in various combative programs – most notable the SOCP itself, which stands for Special Operations Combatives Program, a system devised by Thompson himself and part of the official training regimen for full body armor combat of all U.S. Armed Forces.

The Mini SOCP, disassembled and ready to be customized

So the Benchmade SOCP fixed blades have the credentials for the roles they aim to fill, as does this new Mini SOCP Folder. And to be clear: this is one of those cases where the word “Mini” is a very relative term, as the Mini SOCP Folder’s spear point blade measures out to 3.76 inches. That makes it a sizable cutting tool, able to handle both standard and demanding day-to-day chores in addition to its self-defense applications. S30V, an older powder metallurgy steel but one that is without a doubt still putting in good work, is the steel used on this model.

Customization is a major highlight on the Mini SOCP. First, it can be configured for three different types of deployment: a thumb disk, a thumb stud, or an Emerson Wave-style pocket hook. It comes with both a standard backspacer, as well as one with a full finger ring built in for the quickest possible pocket draw. Even if you aren’t interested in configuring your Mini SOCP with that ring, its stubby deep carry pocket clip has a ring of its own, adding a little bit of quickness to the more traditional pocket knife retrieval method. The Mini SOCP’s handle scales are made from G-10 and it weighs 4.31 oz. – although that probably varies a tad depending on what setup you are using.

It is available now.
