We are approaching the best holiday of the year, Halloween, at a breakneck pace – and today we’re looking at the on-themingly named Hidden Release Coffin from Boker.

The Hidden Release Coffin comes from the mind of none other than Chuck Gedraitis – and, if you know anything about Gedraitis, you’ll know that amongst his many talents is a particular facility with bolster-deploying automatic knives. We spoke with Gedraitis on the topic back in 2021, when his Switch Army, a custom knife built in the Swiss Army style but designed from the ground up for single action auto deployment, went a bit viral in the knife world. We’re sure that at the time – and in the intervening years – fans have been asking for a production version and, while the Coffin isn’t that exactly, it’s pretty close.

The size is reminiscent of Switch Army, with a 3.15-inch spear point blade here. It’s made from 14C28N and, because it deploys via bolster release, there is nothing at all to break up the profile’s sinuous lines. If you’re unfamiliar with this somewhat rare deployment style, here’s the gist: sliding the front bolster up will send the blade out and into the open position, while a similar maneuver will allow the blade to fold back into the closed position. It’s a useful, low-profile method of automatic deployment, while also being a conversation piece.

Meanwhile, the handle has a (surprise!) coffin shape. The scales are made from black G-10, and the bolster itself is texture to make sure your thumb stays in place while you’re opening your Hidden Release Coffin. In keeping with the Coffin’s overall discreet vibe, the pocket clip Boker implemented here is deep carry. Perhaps due to the more complicated goings-on under the hood, the Coffin is a bit heavier than you might expect at 4 oz. on the nose. Not a pocket anchor by any means, however.

It is available now.
