We Knife Co. has just unleashed the Nexomorph onto the world. This is a high-end knife that transforms between punch dagger and modern locking knife forms.

While we have literally no engineering knowledge, years of observing, interviewing, and writing about knife makers large and small makes us think that designing a morphing knife would be quite the challenge – to say nothing about implementing such a design on a mass production scale. But this is not We Knife Co.’s first morphing knife rodeo; under the Civivi label, they created the Typhoeus, which could switch between a push blade and a fixed blade form.

The Nexomorph closes up just like a regular folding knife

The Nexomorph brings that piece to mind, obviously, but it’s really an evolution of the concept as a whole – especially when you consider that, unlike the Typhoeus, the Nexomorph incorporates an entire button lock system so that, in its folding knife form, it can be used with confidence. The Nexomorph’s blade is 2.95 inches long, so in that folder form it will be a reliable EDC knife, whether your DC needs involve breaking down boxes, cutting cordage, or slicing up an apple. As usual We implemented their favored super steel, M390, for good performance numbers across the board.

Of course, the folder is only half of what the Nexomorph offers, as it can also be a push blade. This particular genre of fixed blade has a tactical/self-defense connotation, and it’s easy to see why, but it’s also a great choice when it comes to any task where a forward, piercing-style motion is best. And, once the Nexomorph is back in Folding Knife mode, a major advancement over the Typhoeus becomes clear: it can actually close up just like any other folder, meaning that no belt sheath is necessary to carry this one around. It weighs 4.28 oz.

The Nexomorph is available now.
